About The Position

The Material Handler works under direct supervision to handle and maintain the flow of materials and products on the premises according to established guidelines. The role physically moves materials used to construct components and finished products, operating motorized and non-motorized handling equipment as needed. The incumbent receives on-the-job training and is expected to follow safety procedures and practices.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Knowledge of and ability to use motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment.
• Manual dexterity.
• Knowledge of safety procedures while performing materials handling tasks.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Physically handle materials used to construct components and finished products, lifting, carrying, and stacking items as needed to optimize their movement.
• Operate motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment; some equipment may require specialized training.
• Attend to training from a foreman or more senior handlers to increase knowledge of work processes.
• Understand and observe safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self and coworkers.
• Attend periodic safety meetings as required and potentially recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
