About The Position

Hood Container is searching for a qualified Sit-Down Forklift Operator/Material Handler to assist in coordinating the day-to-day activities in the shipping and receiving offices. This role involves providing customer service to truck drivers and the production floor. Strong organizational, teamwork, dependability, accountability, and self-starter skills are essential for success in this position. The shift for this role is Evening Shift, from 4pm to 2am.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years’ experience as forklift operator in production or distribution environment.
  • Able to read, write, communicate efficiently, and follow instructions on factory masters.
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and document a sit-down forklift inspection form before the start of the shift and when operating a new forklift.
  • Verify counts as materials leave or enter the warehouse/production area.
  • Work with shipping and receiving on incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Ensure that all jobs are pulled and ready for the next shift’s production run.
  • Ensure that all materials being removed from a production line are accurately recorded on the correct form, and that all materials have been properly banded and/or wrapped to ensure that they will “hold up” in the warehouse.
  • Perform periodic routine maintenance checks on the lifts and turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs.
  • Maneuver forklifts safely in busy industrial environments.
  • Safely stack and unstack large quantities of goods onto shelves or pallets.
  • Move goods from storage areas to loading areas for transport.
  • Unload deliveries and safely relocate the goods to their designated storage areas.
  • Ensure that forklift driving areas are free from spills or obstructions.
  • Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
  • Adhere to daily production schedule.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.
