About The Position

The Material Handler works in the Production department, unloading donations from containers and moving goods to appropriate production areas. The role sorts salvage and garbage from salable goods, organizes donations for further processing, and helps maintain an orderly flow of goods to the production floor. The position is non-exempt and pays $18.25–$20.55 per hour, depending on experience. It reports to the Material Handler Supervisor. The work takes place outdoors and in a warehouse, where temperatures vary and dust may be present. The employee must maintain reliable attendance, communicate effectively with others, including people with limited English skills, and support a safe, clean, and customer-focused work environment. Forklift duties may be performed only when the employee is certified to Seattle Goodwill standards. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; minors may not operate or perform duties with heavy machinery or compactors. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required, and no prior experience is required. The position requires physical activity including lifting and carrying up to 30–40 pounds, prolonged standing, frequent bending and other movements, climbing ladders, and traveling across stairs, ramps, and uneven terrain. Mental and sensory abilities include organizing, sorting, categorizing, counting, basic arithmetic, problem solving, and communicating with the public. Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years or older.
No experience is required.
High school graduation or equivalency is preferred but not required.
Ability to lift and carry up to 30–40 pounds.
Ability to stand for long periods and frequently bend, kneel, reach, stoop, squat, and push.
Ability to climb ladders and travel across stairs, ramps, and uneven terrain.
Developed fine motor control to grasp, handle, and manipulate objects with fingers.
Ability to organize, sort, categorize, count, add, and subtract.
Problem-solving ability.
Ability to communicate with the public and use verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations as applicable.

Nice To Haves

Seattle Goodwill forklift certification is optional when applicable to the role and subject to eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

Remove and sort salvage material and garbage from salable goods.
Sort donations into appropriate bins for further processing.
Provide a smooth flow of goods to the production floor.
