About The Position

The Material Handler will be responsible for the safe, efficient flow of material through the plant and for the accurate processing of related paperwork. This role involves loading, unloading, and moving materials within the plant or work site, performing various duties to ensure smooth operations. The position requires attention to detail in processing incoming and outgoing products, maintaining inventory accuracy, and adhering to safety protocols. The Material Handler will also be responsible for completing necessary documentation and communicating effectively with internal staff and external vendors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
  • Excellent communication skills in working with in-house staff and outside vendors such as freight carriers and sales personnel.
  • Proficiency in using the personal computer, including Windows-based applications.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Resourceful and a self-starter with the ability to work with limited direct supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, quick-changing atmosphere.
  • Must be alert, able to concentrate, able to use good judgment and analytical skills.
  • Able to sit, stand and perform repetitive activities for sustained periods of time.
  • Uses hands to type on standard pc keyboard frequently.
  • Works in a normally stressful environment with significant pressure.
  • Move about facility to interact with employees.
  • Multi-task on several jobs at once.
  • Uses hands to write legibly.
  • Reads written information and requires the ability to understand conceptual material.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs assisted.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs occasionally.

Nice To Haves

  • More than 6 months experience in Materials and/or Logistics role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Oracle, SAP, or similar inventory control system a plus.
  • Experience with UPS Worldship a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant or work site.
  • Opens containers using hand tools.
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
  • Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites to designated area, using hand truck, electric dolly, or other device.
  • Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination, using hand-operated crane or hoist, or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
  • Lifts heavy objects by hand or using power hoist.
  • Cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
  • Makes simple adjustments or repairs, such as realigning belts or replacing rollers, using hand tools.
  • Occasionally operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Processes incoming product or materials by unloading trucks and verifying and inspecting incoming freight for damage.
  • Picks parts from warehouse location and delivers to production line, correctly marking pick lists and pick tickets.
  • Submits all labor/time and production documents timely and accurately.
  • Accurately selects and processes customer orders, ensuring customer expectations are met.
  • Completes safety training as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Initiates solutions to quality-related problems.
  • Prevents non-conforming product.
  • Makes and implements decisions within their areas of responsibility.
  • Reports any possible safety hazards to supervisor or lead person.
