Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Forklift operation and material handling
  • Understanding of key Quality and Environmental Management System procedures related to the role
  • Ability to work with production forms, tags, and labels
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members

  • Previous material handling or injection molding experience

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all production equipment is consistently supplied with the correct materials while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized production environment.
  • Ensuring that plant floor areas remain clean and that proper procedures are followed during clean-ups.
  • Ensuring production equipment is kept free of spilled plastic pellets at all times.
  • Establishing and maintaining an efficient route between machines, the grinding area, material storage areas, the warehouse, and assembly areas to ensure awareness of both immediate and upcoming material requirements.
  • Notifying the Shift Supervisor immediately if a task cannot be completed as required.
  • Ensuring all materials and items being moved are clearly and properly identified. Any unidentified material must be reported to Quality or the Supervisor immediately.
  • Following FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory practices when consuming materials.
  • Keeping machine hoppers full, properly covered, and ensuring grinders are emptied regularly.
  • Verifying that the correct material is used for each job by referencing the Operation Instruction and/or set-up sheet.
  • Being familiar with all resins used in production.
  • Blending color concentrates when required.
  • Ensuring the maximum allowable regrind is used in each molding process.
  • Confirming that all hoppers and dryers are properly covered and labeled with the correct Material ID Tag (when applicable).
  • Performing grinding promptly and emptying grinder buckets regularly to prevent overflow.
  • Storing virgin material and regrind material separately in clearly marked containers.
  • Returning unused material to raw material inventory.
  • Communicating with the next shift’s Material Handler to coordinate mold changes and upcoming tasks.
  • Notifying the Supervisor when materials are running low to prevent production shortages.
  • Breaking down empty gaylords as required.
  • Ensuring all applicable products are scanned before being moved to the warehouse.
  • When a job is not running, removing packaging and components and storing them in the designated area.
  • Removing garbage from the production cell before the end of the shift.
  • Performing raw material changes, which includes turning off the loader to stop the material feed, draining any remaining material from the loader or dryer and returning it to storage if required, disassembling and cleaning the loader or dryer to remove all previous material, inspecting the unit to ensure all pellets and dust have been removed, reassembling the loader or dryer, ensuring the correct Material ID chip (if applicable) is placed on the dryer or loader, and updating the dryer log sheet with the new material or lot number.
  • Cleaning grinders, which includes turning off the main power switch, unplugging the grinder, and locking out the main disconnect, removing any remaining regrind from the drawer and storing it in the raw material storage area, thoroughly vacuuming the drawer and corners to remove all particles, disassembling the grinder and vacuuming blades and screens to remove previous material, reassembling and tightening all components securely, sweeping the grinder area to remove all pellets and debris, and plugging in the grinder and restoring power before resuming operation.
