About The Position

This position reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for handling, moving, and storing materials within the Weld and Machine shop areas, with secondary assistance in the assembly area. The role involves coordinating with various leads and managers to ensure materials are set up, moved, and accounted for accurately and efficiently. Additionally, the Material Handler is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including waste management and forklift maintenance.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • The ability to obtain and retain proper forklift/industrial vehicle license requirements
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • The ability to work successfully with a diverse workforce
  • A strong work ethic to work independently with accuracy
  • Basic computer skills
  • Acute attention to working safely and maintaining a safe work environment

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years’ experience operating a forklift or heavy machinery in a manufacturing, distribution, logistics, military, or related environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Setting up each weld station with material for the next production day by area by close of business.
  • Moving completed weldments to the next process location.
  • Ensuring all aisles are free of in-process materials.
  • Moving all large pipe and tube in and out of the building utilizing material handling trailers and overhead cranes.
  • Bringing required materials to the saw areas one day prior to need.
  • Transporting finished materials to the next process location or to intermediate storage.
  • Ensuring the machine shop aisles are free of in-process material.
  • Correcting inventory record accuracy.
  • Ensuring all material moved has a part number tag correctly filled out.
  • Maintaining the production storage lot in a very organized and clean manner.
  • Ensuring 100% of all material in the production lot is accounted for, labeled/tagged, and managed.
  • Helping to verify incoming shipments and paperwork for accuracy.
  • Gathering and emptying all garbage cans in the shop every Monday and Thursday afternoon prior to close of business using the designated self-tipping hopper.
  • Daily separating and emptying all scrap containers into the respective recycle dumpsters.
  • Breaking down all cardboard terminal box containers and taking them to the cardboard recycle area.
  • Cleaning and washing the new forklift every Thursday afternoon prior to close of business.
  • Other duties as required.
