About The Position

This job family encompasses both shipping and material handling functions within the Warehouse. Employees begin in material handling and receive cross-training in shipping as they gain experience. Under the supervision of the Warehouse/Transportation Supervisor, responsibilities include operating a forklift to move materials to production lines and staging areas, loading and unloading trailers, pulling product, and moving product within the warehouse and onto trucks using a lift truck or turret truck. The role also involves various duties common to all positions, such as adhering to company policies on safety, quality, and attendance, performing housekeeping tasks, completing safety checklists for equipment, and managing packaging orders. Material Handler duties specifically include pulling finished goods, preparing them for shipping, retrieving and supplying pallets to production lines, handling non-conforming product, and operating baler and stretch wrap machines.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain a forklift operator license.
  • Knowledge of general computer systems in order to utilize automated product scanning software.
  • Able to lift, move and carry boxes of materials and/or equipment, unassisted, weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Must have 20/20 vision with corrective lenses.
  • Must have manual dexterity to use scanner and to key information into computer system.

Responsibilities

  • Operates forklift to move materials to production lines and staging areas.
  • Loads and unloads trailers.
  • Pulls product and moves product with lift truck/turret truck within the warehouse and onto trucks.
  • Follows all Company policies regarding safety, quality, and attendance.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner and reports all observed safety hazards.
  • Acts as a role model for Safety on shift.
  • Participates in safety programs by reporting Unsafe Conditions, Unsafe Acts and Close Calls; enters Near Miss data and observations into Global Data Center database (GDC).
  • Responsible for housekeeping activities such as sweeping/mopping tire marks by baler/stretch-wrap areas; picks up trash bags and empties recycle bins on production floor; picks up and bales cardboard from production floor.
  • Completes crown lift or forklift safety checklist; changes battery and fills battery cells with water on crown lift; fills propane tank on forklift.
  • Completes packaging orders by locating and pulling packaging in the warehouse racks and placing packaging on the designated area on the production floor.
  • Consolidates similar packaging on the production floor as orders are placed by production personnel.
  • Returns unused packaging to Warehouse.
  • Participates in employee driven teams to address a variety of operations related issues.
  • Pulls finished goods from lines, takes it to stretch wrap, weighs pallets and scans finished goods pallet to JDE; transfers completed work.
  • Retrieves pallets from outside and supplies to production lines by stacking appropriate number on pallet and removing them as needed during the production process.
  • Removes broken pallets and replaces with new ones; places broken pallets in designated area.
  • Picks up, weighs, labels and bales non-conforming product from production lines; places bailed product in staging area; fills out the appropriate non-conforming product forms.
  • Gets master-batch from racks and places it on the dumper; operates dumper to fill batch holder and takes it to appropriate location on the production floor; breaks down empty gaylord and takes to cardboard recycling area.
  • Safely operates and maintains baler and stretch wrap machine as needed.
