About The Position

The Material Handler Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Material Handlers w/ Magnet or Grapple. This Equipment Operator generally operates cranes with a grapple or magnet which is used to transport metals or other materials to feed hoppers or chutes, and/or to stockpile metals. Reporting to a Shift Supervisor, the Material Handler Operator will be expected to work 5 days per week plus Saturdays (half day) as needed. Flexibility on shift is also expected based on business need. It is essential that they follow and enforce all required Covanta safety policies and procedures and ensure that customers and employees conduct all business in a safe manner and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of experience in the operation of Sennobagen (or equivalent) and heavy loaders
  • A valid state Driver’s License and forklift certification
  • Unwavering commitment to safety protocols and maintaining a safe working environment
  • Ability to work required shifts (Saturdays/alternate shift hours)
  • Past experience operating forklifts, hand tools (both power and manual) and hydraulic equipment
  • Strong sense of independent judgement and initiative
  • Ability to work well in a team dynamic and communicate effectively in an industrial environment

Responsibilities

  • Operating the Material Handler and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner as directed by supervisory personnel to support daily facility operations
  • Performing daily cleaning, upkeep and safety checks of the equipment pre and post operation to ensure smooth operation of equipment
  • Working with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program
  • Complying with all health, safety and environmental policies, procedures, practices and regulations
  • Assist maintenance team with, and perform minor equipment repair work as needed
  • Performing tasks as directed by Supervisor
