The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking and distributing material and products within establishment. This role involves reading production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. The Material Handler transports materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas, and sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to a predetermined sequence. They fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, and assemble customer orders from stock, placing them on pallets. Additionally, this role involves marking materials with identifying information, opening bales, crates, and other containers, and recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed. The Material Handler weighs or counts items for distribution to ensure conformance to company standards, and is certified to drive material handling equipment. They transport stored items within the warehouse and load and unload trailers of palletized and non-palletized product, utilizing both manual and automated material handling equipment. Safety and hygiene are paramount, with adherence to appropriate guidelines for safe housekeeping and personal protection. The role requires keeping the work area clean, removing trash, and ensuring aisles and exits are clear. Following instructions for safe lifting and carrying of various sizes, shapes, and weights, and identifying/reporting defective equipment are essential. All job-related injuries must be reported to supervision. The Material Handler takes photos of incoming or outgoing loads and logs items and pictures for documentation, and uses a computer to enter records. Where applicable, the role may involve climbing and working at heights of material tanks, climbing on top or into tank trailers to check seals and take samples, and preparing and taking a cycle count inventory of all merchandise. Mandatory overtime may be required, and the role supports and participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S. Other duties may be performed as required.
