About The Position

The Explosives Material Handler receives, stores, accounts for, moves, issues, packages, and ships energetic materials, ammunition, and explosives in support of Department of Defense production, testing, storage, and sustainment missions. The incumbent works in magazines, process buildings, and outdoor explosive operating areas at CMG's Ballinger, TX campus, operating under Defense Explosives Safety Regulation (DESR) 6055.09, DA PAM 385-64, applicable Service explosives safety publications, 27 CFR (ATF), and 49 CFR hazardous materials transportation rules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain ATF explosives employee possessor eligibility.
  • Ability to work in magazines, process buildings, and outdoor explosive operating areas, including exposure to energetic materials.
  • Strong attention to detail for inventory accountability and regulatory documentation.
  • Ability to lift and move munitions and materials up to 50 lbs and to stand, bend, and walk throughout a shift.
  • Willingness to obtain HAZMAT/DOT transportation certification if not already held.
  • Must pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior military, DoD, or civilian experience handling ammunition, explosives, or energetic materials.
  • Existing HAZMAT/DOT hazardous materials transportation certification.
  • Forklift or other certified materials-handling equipment experience.
  • Familiarity with DESR 6055.09, DA PAM 385-64, or equivalent Service explosives safety publications.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming energetic materials, ammunition, and explosives, verifying documentation, condition, and quantities against shipping and contract records.
  • Store explosives and energetic materials in magazines, process buildings, and outdoor operating areas in accordance with DESR 6055.09, DA PAM 385-64, and applicable Service explosives safety publications.
  • Maintain proper segregation, quantity-distance, and compatibility group requirements across storage locations.
  • Move, issue, and account for explosives and energetic materials in support of production, testing, storage, and sustainment missions.
  • Maintain accurate, auditable accountability records for all energetic materials and munitions handled.
  • Conduct physical inventories and reconcile discrepancies in coordination with production and safety leadership.
  • Package explosives, ammunition, and energetic materials in accordance with 49 CFR hazardous materials transportation rules and applicable DoD packaging standards.
  • Prepare and verify shipping documentation for outbound hazardous materials shipments.
  • Coordinate with carriers and internal stakeholders to ensure compliant, on-schedule shipments.
  • Follow all applicable explosives safety requirements under DESR 6055.09, DA PAM 385-64, 27 CFR (ATF), and 49 CFR at all times.
  • Use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) and materials-handling equipment.
  • Report unsafe conditions, non-conformances, or handling discrepancies immediately to supervision and safety personnel.
