About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for the safe execution of day‑to‑day material handling activities on industrial construction projects. Working under the direction of the Lead Material Handler, this role supports receiving, unloading, staging, storage, preservation, and delivery of materials to support construction activities. The Material Handler is expected to actively participate in front‑line safety processes, follow approved safe work practices, and ensure materials are handled, stored, and identified in accordance with project requirements.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
  • Required to work outdoors and in active construction areas.
  • 1-3 years experience in construction material handling or receiving preferred.
  • Familiarity with material shipping documents and quality records.
  • Ability and willingness to use digital tools (tablet‑based systems, material tracking software).

Nice To Haves

  • May be required to operate or coordinate material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, telehandler, cranes) if qualified and authorized.
  • xperience with SiteSense, Jovix, or similar systems considered an asset.
  • Equipment operation experience (forklift, telehandler, zoom boom) considered an asset.
  • Prior experience on industrial construction projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in toolbox talks and daily safety meetings related to material handling activities.
  • Completes and follows Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) prior to performing work.
  • Performs assigned tasks in accordance with approved safe work practices, site safety rules, and procedures.
  • Uses required PPE, tools, and equipment properly at all times.
  • Immediately reports hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents to the Lead Material Handler.
  • Escorts deliveries onto site and conducts driver orientations and load assessments as required.
  • Assists with unloading, staging, and movement of materials in accordance with site plans and instructions.
  • Performs physical inspections of incoming materials to identify overages, shortages, or damage (UOSD).
  • Reviews shipping documentation and identifies missing or deficient paperwork.
  • Takes photographs during receiving and handling activities as required.
  • Stores materials in designated laydown or storage areas in accordance with manufacturer and project requirements.
  • Assists with material preservation activities as directed.
  • Ensures materials are clearly identified, labelled, and traceable.
  • Maintains tidy, organized laydown and storage areas in accordance with site housekeeping standards.
  • Assists with creation and updating of MRRs, delivery records, UOSD reports, photographs, and location information in the project materials management system.
  • Accurately tracks and updates material locations as materials are moved or issued.
  • Uses tablets or digital tools as required to support materials management processes.
  • Picks and delivers materials to support work packages and work‑face requirements as directed.
  • Coordinates with the Lead Material Handler to ensure materials are available when and where required.
  • Supports surplus material handling and demobilization activities during project close‑out as assigned.
