About The Position

This role is responsible for various material handling tasks, including checking vendor accuracy, creating bills of lading, ensuring cargo integrity, proper labeling, quality checks, and order fulfillment. The position involves handling hazardous materials, operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment in accordance with company standards and SOPs. The Material Handler II also plays a key role in training others and understanding all branch functions.

Requirements

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and complete basic checklists, forms or other related documents.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities.
  • Consistently at work and on time.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Greater than three years’ of related experience.
  • Forklift certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Check for vendor accuracy and create bills of lading (BOLs).
  • Validate cargo for damage, ensure correct labeling, perform quality checklist, and sign off on load accuracy.
  • Perform kitting and sub-assembly tasks.
  • Handle hazardous materials, including packing, checking MSDS, and completing required paperwork.
  • Fill client orders safely, efficiently, and within Crane SOPs.
  • Ensure distribution activities comply with internal quality standards and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Read and follow work orders to ascertain materials or container loads to be moved.
  • Operate a forklift or other drivable warehouse equipment, including high reach vehicles.
  • Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand, forklift, or other warehouse equipment.
  • Load materials into vehicles and install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Count, weigh, and record the number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheets.
  • Attach identifying tags or labels to materials.
  • Scan freight via warehouse management system with RF equipment.
  • Complete required paperwork thoroughly and promptly.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Accurately and courteously load client merchandise.
  • Be a member of the Safety Committee at least once during the year.
  • Act as a trainer and exhibit competency in training others.
  • Know all accounts and be able to perform every floor function in the branch.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
