About The Position

The Material Handler II position is responsible for accurately and safely receiving, storing, packaging, and shipping all product entering and leaving TAPCO. This role requires flexibility to adapt quickly to change and a desire for growth. This position plays a key role in TAPCO’s prime metrics that feed directly into the companywide gainsharing program. The Material Handler I will have a broad knowledge of DC tasks, performing some at a high level. This role involves being cross-trained with the ability to switch roles when needed. Throughout the day, you will be on and off equipment and actively moving throughout the building on your feet. TAPCO will train you on stand-up forklifts, sit down forklifts, joey’s and more. The Material Handler position encompasses multiple aspects of warehousing, and TAPCO will train you in multiple areas such as picking, packing, small pack processing, receiving, and freight.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, and interpret English instructions.
  • Operate forklift and other powered equipment.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, suppliers, and customers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
  • Ability to interpret verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Able to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills – Basic knowledge and ability to look up and enter data.
  • Able to learn and accept feedback.
  • Able to work cooperatively in a team-based environment and independently.
  • Able to use a variety of hand tools.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
  • 2 + years’ experience in a related role or in a distribution center environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 - 3 years forklift experience loading / unloading trucks.
  • Experience using an Inventory Control System.

Responsibilities

  • Operate needed warehouse equipment as assigned.
  • Compare identifying information and count, weigh, or measure items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Use computer or handheld to utilize WMS system to look up, verify data, process sales orders or purchase orders related to incoming and outgoing orders.
  • Follow all building safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Retrieve product from warehouse locations and assemble customer orders.
  • Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers and insert items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
  • Affix shipping labels on packages or stencil identifying shipping information on cartons.
  • Attach identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
  • Unpack and examine incoming shipments, follow established procedures to reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shipper and supervisor to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Stock items into proper locations.
  • Load/unload trucks for shipments.
  • Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Achieve a Training Matrix task score of 125-247.
