About The Position

Understand and positively promote the Mission, Vision, and Values of Goodwill Industries. Accept donated goods from members of the public and provide excellent customer service. Efficiently and safely load and unload trucks or trailers. Responsible for accurately sorting, stocking, processing or disposing of product or material and helping to maintain organization in the warehouse and assigned areas; this includes, but is not limited to, donated goods, recycled materials, salvage materials, garbage, and hazardous materials. Operate a forklift as needed. Material Handler 2 at a location not solely serviced from the central warehouse, may be required to operate a box truck on a regular, but limited basis.

Requirements

  • At least six months’ related experience required including forklift certification and use of forklift in a warehouse or similar setting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be forklift certified.
  • May be required to possess a valid Oregon or Alaska driver’s license days and have an insurable driving record.
  • For locations requiring occasionally box truck driving, must be able pass and maintain DOT drug screening and non-DOT medical certification.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting techniques.
  • Must not present a direct threat to the safety and health of oneself, others or to property.
  • Exercise good judgment.
  • Must provide current, state issued identification and eligibility to work in the United States of America.
  • Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug-screening test.
  • Record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates a tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior may disqualify you.

Nice To Haves

  • Hazardous material training desirable.
  • HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Ability to pass respirator fitness test upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently and safely load and unload trucks and trailers using pallet jacks and forklifts.
  • Maintain warehouse, donations area and other assigned workstations as safe, organized and clean workspaces.
  • Accurately sort salvage materials into assigned containers.
  • Safely operate and maintain the textile baler, forklift and other equipment as assigned.
  • Safely operate, clean and maintain the forklift.
  • Perform opening/closing duties of workstation by assessing donation area to ensure it is clean, work areas are safe, and equipment is working properly.
  • Responsible for reporting any necessary maintenance issues related to facilities or equipment as soon as possible.
  • Accept donations from the public, transferring items to the appropriate tote, cart, or basket in compliance with established best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Assist donor(s) as needed, in unloading donations in a timely and courteous manner, treating all donations with respect.
  • Demonstrate excellent, respectful and professional customer service to all, including but not limited to customers, donors, co-workers and vendors.
  • Thank donor for donations and ensure that receipt is offered to each donor, regardless of size of donation and ask donor to return.
  • Meet or exceed the Mystery Shop score goal as established.
  • Accurately tally each donation on sheet immediately after it is made.
  • Transport stock to/from workstation to other areas.
  • Maintain the donation center, warehouse and assigned work areas in a clean and orderly fashion. This may include, but is not limited to, picking up grounds around the building, sweeping, mopping, dusting and washing windows.
  • Immediately report any necessary facility or equipment maintenance, including but not limited to broken equipment, lights/ballasts out, and damage to building/grounds.
  • Prepare records and reports, as requested.
  • Ensure that donations are secured indoors when leaving the site (lunch, end-of-shift, etc.).
  • Identify and properly dispose of garbage.
  • Identify and process recyclable material as appropriate.
  • Empty garbage and recycling bins.
  • May require hazardous material handling including but not limited to, sorting hazardous donations by chemical and disposal method, keep the hazardous storage area clean and organized, systematically dispose of materials as needed.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a clean retail environment by dusting furniture and/or tidying on the sales floor as needed.
  • Retrieve and collect shopping carts and baskets as necessary.
  • Notify immediate supervisor of any problems or unusual situations.
  • Ensure that donations are secure and GILSCC sort is performed indoors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
