About The Position

The Master Upholstery Repair Technician is responsible for ensuring upholstered furniture is repaired in the most effective and efficient manner, with a strong focus on identifying and correcting damaged or defective pieces prior to leaving the facility. This role ensures all upholstered furniture meets or exceeds industry standards by utilizing appropriate tools, materials, and techniques within established turnaround expectations. The Master Upholstery Repair Technician also plays a critical role in training and mentoring Upholstery Technicians and Junior Repair Technicians to support consistent quality, skill development, and team performance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge to determine damage versus defects in furniture and Upholstery
  • Ability to repair upholstered furniture to industry standards
  • Knowledge of all aspects of Upholstery, including motion upholstery, i.e. mechanical / power.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a furniture repair environment
  • Ability to accurately identify and match colors and finishes for upholstery repairs
  • Clean MVR – able to drive company repair van
  • Detail oriented with an aptitude for multi-tasking
  • Must be highly motivated and dependable
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, mindful of safety at all times
  • Communicates concerns and shares ideas with management
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing at least 75 lbs.
  • Ability to push, pull, and maneuver 200–300 lbs. using a dolly or hand truck.
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Frequent reaching, handling, fingering, and use of hand tools.
  • Ability to effectively communicate work‑related information with team members and associates through appropriate communication methods, including in person, radio, and telephone

Nice To Haves

  • 3 Years Experience In All Aspects Of Upholstering. Framing, Pattern Cutting and Sewing, Motion Repair & Mech Installation, Panel Installation and Upholstering

Responsibilities

  • Ability to use a commercial sewing machine and cleaning equipment
  • Work with all types of upholstery and upholstered items
  • Work with powered and manual hand tools to repair upholstered items
  • Ability to fabricate and / or repair frames and install mechanisms
  • Knowledge of paint and stain colors for touch-ups to case goods and upholstery legs
  • Ability to interact with multi-tasked inspectors to achieve minimal bumped pieces on trips
  • Capable of handling minor case good repair through sanding, gluing, and utilizing shop supplies and tools necessary for a quick fix on surface scratches, packing marks, and minor damage to produce an industry standard product
  • Ability to determine manufacturer’s defects versus transit damage
  • Capable of learning when and how to write up a manufacturer’s debit
  • Communicates with Service and Sales associates on upholstery concerns and tasks
  • Makes local service calls in our Shop service call van.
  • Scan product with RF scanning devices
  • Dispose of trash/cardboard into baler/compactor and clean work area
  • Ability to train and mentor New Upholstery Technicians, and Junior Repair Technicians
  • Ability to use hand tools and shop supplies for quick fix repairs
  • Willingness to complete off campus Shop workorders in customers home.
