About The Position

The Master Technician is a hands-on maintenance position responsible for keeping Cold Zone material handling and operational equipment safe, reliable, and available for use. This position performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment inspections at multiple sites; coordinates specialized service when outside support is required; and partners directly with Operations to reduce equipment downtime and outsourced maintenance costs.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety and promotes Cold Zone's safety culture in all maintenance activities.
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose equipment failures and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Ability to prioritize competing repair and preventive maintenance needs in a fast-paced, 24/7 operation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain equipment issues, repair needs, and recommendations to Operations leadership.
  • Ability to work independently, organize preventive maintenance and repair work, and maintain accurate service records.
  • Cost awareness with the ability to evaluate repair options, parts needs, and when outside vendor support is justified.
  • Ability to make sound repair decisions independently while recognizing when specialized service, warranty support, or escalation is appropriate.
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, mechanical problem-solving, and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to maintain maintenance records, equipment history, parts information, and repair documentation using basic computer systems and Microsoft Office.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of hands-on maintenance experience in a warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, fleet, or industrial environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing material handling or comparable industrial equipment.
  • Company Approved Driver

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Advanced experience repairing forklifts, reach trucks, electric pallet jacks, dock equipment, or other material handling equipment.
  • Experience performing and documenting preventive maintenance programs and equipment inspections.
  • Experience working directly with equipment dealers, parts suppliers, and third-party service providers.
  • Experience supporting equipment purchasing, repair-versus-replace decisions, and equipment lifecycle planning.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for Cold Zone material handling and operational equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair forklifts, reach trucks, electric pallet jacks, spotter trucks, pallet moles, and other operational equipment.
  • Respond to equipment maintenance requests and prioritize repairs based on safety, operational impact, and customer commitments.
  • Reduce equipment downtime by identifying recurring failures, completing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective repairs.
  • Coordinate with maintenance vendors and other specialized service providers when work cannot reasonably be completed in-house.
  • Review vendor repair recommendations and invoices with Operations leadership and identify opportunities to complete work internally or reduce outside service costs.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules, equipment service history, warranty information, repair records, and maintenance documentation.
  • Determine when equipment repairs can be completed internally and when specialized, warranty, or major repairs should be outsourced.
  • Partner with Site Managers and Operations leadership to schedule maintenance activities that minimize disruption to warehouse operations.
  • Assist with new equipment purchases by providing technical input on equipment fit, specifications, and operational needs.
  • Support equipment inspections and audit readiness by ensuring equipment is maintained in safe operating condition and required maintenance records are current.
  • Provide technical input on equipment condition, repair-versus-replace decisions, and equipment replacement timing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
