About The Position

The Master Roaster contributes to Starbucks’ success by operating the automated Advanced Coffee Roasting System (ACRS) for green, roasted, or ground coffee and adjusting roasting schedules to meet immediate and future packaging requirements. The role serves as a lead plant resource for roasting-system troubleshooting and incident investigation, while helping develop ACRS operators and technicians through training, coaching, and mentoring. The Master Roaster also monitors quality and operational metrics, supports process improvements, and helps ensure compliance with Starbucks roast profiles, quality standards, and safety protocols. The position involves assessing production schedules against loading, roasting, and packaging status; maintaining packaging-machine uptime while avoiding coffee-aging and degassing issues; and supporting cost-reduction goals by reducing downtime, scrap, and product that does not meet specifications. The Master Roaster participates in cuppings and other sensory evaluations, develops expertise in roast theory and green-to-cup processing, and uses that knowledge to improve processes and coffee quality. The role may require up to 15% travel and roast qualification work with domestic and international co-manufacturers.
