About The Position

The Master of Social Work (MSW) program in the Graduate School of Counseling and Social Work at Merrimack College is seeking an open-rank, non-tenure track, 9-month faculty member to begin in Fall 2026. This position involves teaching on-campus and online courses within the CSWE-accredited MSW program. The faculty member will teach a total of 8 courses across the fall, spring, and summer semesters, serve as an academic advisor, and contribute to the MSW program, the Graduate School, and the college. The program emphasizes an advanced generalist approach, working with vulnerable populations, and upholding values of self-determination, sustainability, and community solidarity. The faculty member must be skilled in teaching and advising adult learners and capable of instructing courses such as Introduction to Social Work Research and Practice, Evaluation of Social Work Practice, and Contemporary Social Welfare Policy. Responsibilities include teaching, course management, advising, mentoring, attending meetings, and completing programmatic tasks.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program or equivalency as defined by CSWE
  • Doctoral degree in Social Work or an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in a related field
  • Minimum 2-years full-time post MSW experience in social work practice
  • Minimum of 3 years of on-campus and/or online teaching in a MSW program
  • Confidence and skill teaching and advising adult learners

Nice To Haves

  • LCSW/LICSW with minimum 2-years post MSW clinical practice and supervision experience.
  • Experience with online platforms for course delivery and assessment.
  • Experience working with and/or teaching about multicultural populations, immigrant populations, or underserved communities.
  • Proficiency in a second language as a bilingual speaker.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a total of 32 credit/contact hours (8 courses) across the fall, spring, and potentially summer semesters.
  • Teach on-campus courses in the evening after 4:00 pm.
  • Deliver online courses asynchronously and synchronously.
  • Provide formal on-campus and online teaching.
  • Ensure effective delivery of instructional material and course management (e.g., assessments, grading, etc.).
  • Advise, mentor, and supervise graduate students.
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Complete social work programmatic tasks.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.
