Requirements

• You are a passionate, innovative leader with the ability to communicate and liaise cooperatively with shipboard personnel and other BC Ferries departments.
• You are computer literate and have clear, concise English communication skills.
• The successful candidate will hold a valid Master Mariner or Master Mariner, Near Coastal certificate.

Nice To Haves

• A familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Loading, clearing and navigating the vessel in all types of weather and traffic.
• Supervising and ensuring that all members of the deck, engineering and catering crew conduct their duties in accordance with policy and procedure regulations.
• Handling emergencies or unusual occurrences; taking responsibility for making on-the-spot decisions which safeguard the best interest of the vessel, passengers, crew and BC Ferries.
• Reviewing, noting and updating new information pertaining to Statutory Regulations and Corporate policies and procedures.
• Completing logbooks, approving timesheets and various other forms, reports and correspondence associated with the administration of the vessel; and conducting vessel inspections.
• Leading, directing, and training crew in fire, safety and boat drills and responding to emergency situations; handling passenger complaints.
