About The Position

Under general supervision, this role performs skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled maintenance work on buildings, athletic fields, exercise equipment, vehicles, and other equipment. The position also serves as a team leader, training others in proper work methods and procedures.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
  • Journeyman’s Certification.
  • Completion of a 3-year University of Akron or other State Approved Sponsored Apprenticeship Program for Trade OR a minimum of 8 years of mechanic trades experience.
  • Ability to operate and use standard powered and non-powered tools and equipment (hammers, saws, screwdrivers, drills, crowbars, jackhammers, core drills, circular saws, hammer drills).
  • Ability to perform mathematics associated with trade applications (fractions, ratios, percentages).
  • Ability to read, write, and accurately follow oral, written, and graphic instructions.
  • Ability to work alone.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to use judgment in determining the correct course of action.
  • Must be able to lift 80 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to demonstrate bending, crouching, and lifting.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder, scaffolding, and work on rooftops.

  • Prior experience in leading others preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all essential functions of a Maintenance Repair Worker, including installations, repairs, and replacements of internal/external campus structures and facilities.
  • Inspect, install, replace, and repair roofs, flooring, walls, windows, doors, and furniture.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace plumbing equipment, clear clogged drains, and manage related equipment.
  • Plan, inspect, and maintain records of maintenance concerns.
  • Research and order maintenance repair parts and supplies.
  • Repair and install lighting, switches, and outlets; replace defective breakers and fuses.
  • Perform general maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Follow a predetermined schedule of preventative maintenance and daily observations of building systems (ventilation, air conditioning, heating).
  • Change filters, belts, and grease equipment as needed; troubleshoot and fix equipment.
  • Perform masonry, concrete, painting, welding, and sheet metal work.
  • Assist in ordering supplies.
  • Monitor buildings for potential problems.
  • Coordinate work with other trades.
  • Complete work, time, and material usage reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Provide guidance to nonexempt staff, including general scheduling, assigning tasks, and monitoring the work of others.
