About The Position

San Diego Youth Services seeks a Maintenance Repair Worker in the Facilities program to be based in San Diego. This is a full-time & non-exempt position reporting to the Chief Program Officer and Facilities Manager. San Diego Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 840,000 homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless. We aim to: Meet the basic needs of youth. San Diego Youth Services has long provided foster homes and adoption support services for families considering adopting a youth in the foster care system. Help youth develop life skills. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets. Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources. SDYS has a staff of approximately 250 employees and 80 volunteers working across San Diego County and an annual budget of approximately $24 million. The Maintenance Repair Worker is accountable to the Chief Program Officer and Facilities Manager for repairs and maintenance of San Diego Youth Services (SDYS) properties as assigned. Repairs and maintenance to include electrical, patchwork, drywall install and prep. Carpentry, doors, windows, cement, painting, plumbing, furnace maintenance and lock installation or repair.

Requirements

  • Five years’ experience in general repairs and building maintenance to include electrical, patchwork, carpentry, doors, windows, cement, painting, plumbing, drywall install, furnace maintenance, lock repair, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance.
  • Must provide own transportation and tools.
  • Must be willing to be fingerprinted and other clearance processes (hire is pending the results of appropriate clearances).

Nice To Haves

  • General Contractor’s License is preferred but not required.
  • Mechanical and mathematical aptitude: Having good mechanical and mathematical aptitude is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain data collection and contract compliance of records as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work completed, and monthly reporting of materials & supplies purchases.
  • Repair items as necessary at SDYS properties.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager in developing and implementing a maintenance schedule for SDYS properties.
  • Advise Admin and Center staff on preventative maintenance issues.
  • Attend Administrative Support Team meetings on a regular basis.
  • Participate in implementing the agency’s resource development plan as appropriate.
  • Assist Real Estate Director and Facilities Manager on the review, negotiation and awarding of bids from outside vendors for major work at all SDYS facilities and supervise the work of outside licensed contractors to ensure contract compliance and any HIPPA related requirements on construction sites.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
