About The Position

The Master Electrician performs complex electrical and technical assignments involved in the maintenance, repair, and safe, uninterrupted operation of electrical systems in County Facilities. This position has shared accountability for the effective operation of all heating, cooling, plumbing, ventilating, security, fire control, and alarm systems, as well as other building automation systems and technology. The position serves as the primary internal resource and contact for external contractors and service providers within their assigned area of responsibility. Additionally, the position is accountable for mentoring, training, reviewing technical work, and providing guidance to Maintenance Technicians on electrical facilities maintenance and repair. The role also encompasses general maintenance duties, including carpentry, painting, building and equipment repairs, office relocations, furniture moving, custodial duties, floor care, exterior maintenance, and grounds maintenance as needed to effectively maintain all buildings and grounds.

Requirements

  • Class A Master Electrician License with the State of MN
  • 5 years of experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician in a Commercial setting
  • Considerable ability to read and interpret electrical plans and diagrams
  • Extensive knowledge of the MN Building, Electrical, and NFPA codes
  • Valid state-issued driver's license
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Second Class C Boilers License
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform the operation, maintenance, and control functions of electrical and mechanical systems including HVAC maintenance and repair in a commercial environment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively operate building automation and electronic control systems including energy management, security control, fire suppressant, and related building management systems in a commercial environment.
  • Knowledge and functional understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Softwares.
  • Knowledge of building and safety regulations.
  • Forklift certification

Responsibilities

  • Planning, laying out, and supervising all electrical work performed by Facilities staff.
  • Ensuring necessary electrical permits are obtained and that all work complies with National Electric Code Safety Standards.
  • Maintaining County-owned electrical equipment for safe and uninterrupted operation.
  • Operating and maintaining building automation systems, security systems, fire suppressant systems, lighting systems, and related building technology.
  • Operating and maintaining electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment, including motors, controllers, lighting, switches, receptacles, and circuit breakers.
  • Communicating with contract service providers to initiate service requests, resolve problems, and ensure services are performed efficiently.
  • Supporting the effective operations of all HVAC systems and related technology.
  • Performing general maintenance duties including grounds care, carpentry, painting, and building/equipment repairs.
  • Assisting with the relocation and construction of workspaces, including workstation assembly/disassembly, moving, and minor construction/remodeling.
  • Performing grounds keeping duties including lawn, landscape, and hardscape maintenance, seasonal maintenance, and snow/ice removal.
  • Responding to service requests in a timely and effective manner using work order technology and paging devices.
  • Providing after-hours coverage for facility and mechanical systems inspections and emergency services.
  • Performing all other related duties in a professional and effective manner.
  • Participating in the oversight of work performed at other government agencies by CWC as defined by Joint Services Agreements.
