Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years of progressive experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems
  • North Carolina Limited/Unlimited Electrical License

Responsibilities

  • Designs, installs, maintains, evaluates and repairs electrical systems, circuits, and equipment at all County facilities.
  • Preventative maintenance and periodic inspection of electrical equipment before breakdown occurrs.
  • Advise management of hazardous equipment and as needed install new electrical equipment.
  • Coordinates with local utility owners (Duke Power, REA, City of Gastonia, etc.) as needed for project planning and execution for projects/needs of all types and sizes.
  • Develop and prioritize work assignments through a computer maintenance management software program.
  • Requisition and purchase necessary equipment and materials; maintain accurate records of time and materials.
  • Repairs/ installs fixtures, outlets, and switches and makes wire connections inside walls or concealed areas.
  • Replace items such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components or wires.
  • Check operations of generators, switch gear and UPS to ensure operation of backup units.
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and single line drawings to plan wiring layouts for repairs, new construction, and renovations.
  • Secure necessary permits to ensure all work meets local, state, and national electrical codes.
  • Work with engineers, engineering technicians and contractors when working with complex electronic devices for location of electrical wiring, circuits, outlets, load centers and other equipment for installation or repair.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
