This position requires master-level knowledge of cabinetry, casework, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, layout, roofing, building maintenance materials, and practices. The Master Carpenter will design, estimate, build, install, inspect, and repair a wide variety of custom cabinets, counters, display cases, and various other furniture, fixtures, and equipment. They will also design, estimate, build, install, and repair walls, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, and other building components per applicable building codes. Responsibilities include repairing or replacing floor and wall tile, drywall, lockers, restroom partitions, and various other finishes, as well as performing finish trim work with a high degree of completeness. The role involves inspecting roofs semiannually, planning repair schedules, and repairing roof leaks. Additionally, the position requires knowledge of and ability to apply for City permits as required, and performing moderate brick and block repair. The Master Carpenter will maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, materials used, and time spent on projects using the district's computerized work order system and must be willing to carry an on-call phone and respond to calls 24/7. The role may also involve driving various fleet vehicles, maintaining assigned assets, vehicles, and tools, welding objects, selecting and applying paints, stains, wood finishes, and adhesives, inspecting work performed by contractors, and potentially participating in asbestos removal with proper training. The position may require working any hours or any shift, removing snow, and responding to emergencies. The role may temporarily act in the capacity of the Department Manager in their absence and directs the activities of temporary employees and interns.
