About The Position

Search public records and examine titles to determine the legal condition of property title, primarily for residential properties. Copy or summarize recorded documents that affect the condition of title. These roles may be based in production center or branch office environments, and workflow is typically determined by geographic practices. In some cases, the Title Examiner gathers information and creates a title commitment before passing it to a Title Officer. The role works independently and uses experience to examine real property titles of varying complexity, determine status, and establish chain of title.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of title examination experience.
Massachusetts title examination experience.
State license(s), if required.
Detail and quality orientation.
Analytical review skills.

Verbal and written communication skills.
Customer service orientation.
Standard MS skill set.
Proficiency with company operating systems.

Responsibilities

Perform title examination and examine the chain of title for a wide range of title orders, primarily residential.
Abstract and analyze records such as mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics, and plat and map books to determine ownership and legal restrictions and verify legal descriptions and completeness of records.
Resolve most issues involving missing, incomplete, inaccurate, or contradictory information in title documentation.
Prepare initial title commitment documentation based on procedural guidelines.
Prepare and review reports for accuracy.
Provide underwriting interpretation within established guidelines, as applicable.
Perform other duties as assigned.
