About The Position

The Mass Properties Engineer supports the development and production of Gulfstream aircraft by analyzing and managing weight, balance, inertia, mass distribution, and configuration impacts. The role helps engineering teams solve technical problems, evaluate design choices, and maintain accurate aircraft mass properties information. It involves planning, analysis, coordination, and technical problem-solving in support of engineering projects, with work performed under limited supervision and reviewed for accuracy and consistency with overall objectives. The engineer uses engineering models, drawings, bills of material, measured data, and configuration information to develop reliable analyses and reports. The role also provides specialized technical guidance, coordinates with teams inside and outside the assigned group, and identifies practical improvements to engineering processes, quality, and product effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a Mass Properties Engineering role.
  • Experience with weight estimation, center-of-gravity calculations, moments of inertia, mass distribution, weight tracking, and configuration-based reporting.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • With a bachelor's degree, the education and experience framework specifies 5 years in a specific technical discipline or 10 years of broad engineering experience across several technical disciplines; related advanced-degree credit may be considered up to 2 years for a master's degree and 4 years for a PhD in an applicable field.

Nice To Haves

  • Detailed knowledge of aircraft structures, systems functionality, and design, ideally involving commercial or business aircraft.
  • Experience with engineering estimation, uncertainty assessment, trade studies, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Ability to reconcile analytical models with measured data.
  • Experience extracting and validating mass properties from 3D CAD models and interpreting engineering drawings and bills of material.
  • Experience managing engineering model configurations using CAD or product lifecycle management systems such as CATIA, NX, ENOVIA, or Teamcenter.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, similar analytical tools, or advanced Excel.
  • An advanced degree in an engineering-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mass properties analysis, including weight estimation, center-of-gravity calculations, moments of inertia, mass distribution, weight tracking, and configuration-based reporting.
  • Develop and apply analytical approaches to solve difficult engineering problems within schedule and cost objectives.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support important engineering projects through analysis and technical problem-solving.
  • Provide specialized mass properties and technical guidance to engineering team members.
  • Use engineering models, drawings, bills of material, measured data, and configuration information to improve analysis accuracy.
  • Act as a liaison with representatives outside the assigned group or area.
  • Improve daily engineering processes and ensure work meets customer requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the specialty and related aircraft fields and recommend innovations to improve product quality and effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
