About The Position

Investigates reported county ordinance violations reported by other county departments/agencies and the general public. Enforces county ordinances concentrating on areas including tax commissioner’s office, environmental health, housing and zoning ordinances, and business licenses. Investigates violations, works with homeowners to obtain compliance, issues citations when necessary. Refers cases to appropriate departments upon observing or receiving complaint of violations. Counsel the public who are found in violation of the laws; reinvestigates ordinance violations before turning cases over to the Assistant County Attorney for prosecution; testifies before the courts as necessary. Provide law enforcement support at special events as necessary and provides security at Government Center Building and Commission Meetings. Performs other related duties as required. Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years of experience in related field, or law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications as stated above.
  • POST Certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Valid Class C Driver License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations in County Ordinance enforcement and inspection.
  • Knowledge of State and local laws relating to arrest, evidence preparation and keeping and property seizure.
  • Knowledge of county geography.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens and other employees.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in investigations.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and effectively and to determine the proper course of action.
  • Ability to cope with situations firmly, tactfully, courteously, and with respect for the rights of others.
  • Skill in the use of firearms.
  • Ability to move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs.
