About The Position

Our Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Intern Program offers emerging therapists the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a diverse and collaborative clinical setting. The program focuses on developing clinical skills, enhancing theoretical knowledge, and building confidence in working with individuals, couples, and families. Interns receive regular one-on-one supervision from licensed clinicians and access to a diverse client base to broaden their experience. With an emphasis on a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach, our LMFT Intern Program aims to empower future therapists to become compassionate, skilled professionals in the field of mental health.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a graduate program in Clinical, School, or Applied Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Marital and Family Therapy, or Social Work
  • Demonstrated commitment to the field of psychology and a strong academic background.
  • Prior coursework in clinical psychology, assessment, or therapy techniques.
  • Up to 20 hours/week across a maximum of 3 days (12 billable sessions per week):
  • Two, 8-hour days in-person at Lakeside office
  • One, 4-hour day work from home or in-person available
  • Weekday hours will include at least two later afternoon timeslots; either 4pm-5pm or 4pm-6pm

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a minimum caseload of 12 clients per week required
  • Fulfill internship training requirements outlined by the associated educational institute in which the student is enrolled
  • Case conceptualization, diagnosis, treatment planning and case management with a diverse caseload based on patient populations, interventions and diagnoses
  • Assist licensed mental health professionals in conducting assessments, intake interviews, and therapy sessions.
  • Gather and document patient information, assessment results, and progress notes in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to develop treatment plans based on assessment findings and patient needs.
  • Provide emotional support and psychoeducation to patients, helping them understand their conditions and available resources.
  • Observe and learn from clinical or research activities, attending supervision and training sessions.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient information and adhere to ethical standards when dealing with sensitive data.
  • Attend department and trainee team meetings, in-service programs, didactics and staff development activities
  • Other duties as assigned.
