About The Position

This position is a .6 FTE located at the Grace Hopper Center (Program 1 - Technical Program) for SY27. The teacher will be responsible for teaching secondary school level business and technical subjects including business management, accounting, finance, entrepreneurship, business law, fashion merchandising, and marketing. The role involves demonstrating knowledge in areas like database administration, computer networking, computer programming, and cyber security, and planning and delivering instruction using project-based learning. The teacher will develop lesson plans, establish behavioral protocols, observe and evaluate student performance, and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs. Additionally, the position requires managing lab safety, collaborating with business partners for authentic learning experiences, integrating student organizations with curriculum, supporting extracurricular activities, and maintaining positive communication with stakeholders. Participation in professional development and completion of assigned duties are also expected.

Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.
  • Possession of a collegiate professional or postgraduate professional license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsement in Business & Information Technology.
  • Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Business & Information Technology are highly preferred.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with staff, students, and the public.
  • Experience teaching secondary 6th – 12th grade business and information technology courses.
  • Knowledge of entrepreneurship business development and business startup requirements.
  • Experience with integrating business and information technology subject content with core disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific industry certifications may be needed by the qualified candidate to teach courses where the students will sit for an industry certification test.
  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches secondary school level business and technical subjects including business management, accounting, finance, entrepreneurship, business law, fashion merchandising, and marketing.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in database administration, computer networking, computer programming, and cyber security.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of planning and instruction delivery with project-based learning activities.
  • Develops and implements both group and individual lesson plans for daily, quarter, semester, and year-long periods planning instructional experiences for students in accordance with established curriculum.
  • Establishes and implements behavioral protocols; observes and evaluates student performance, social and leadership development.
  • Instructs students utilizing a variety of classroom methods, adapting methodology, and instructional materials to meet student needs, abilities, and IEPs.
  • Manage the safe use and operation of the lab and lab equipment.
  • Instruct students on the safe use of lab equipment and appropriate behavior within the lab and classroom.
  • Collaborates with business partners to provide enhanced authentic learning experiences for students.
  • Integrates student organizations leadership activities with curricula content and participate in after school activities within the school, district, region, state, and nationally.
  • Supports school-related extracurricular activities and maintains positive professional communications with parents, guardians, administration, and colleagues.
  • Participate in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings, as required or assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
