Exponent’s fast-paced Business Development and Marketing team is seeking an experienced B2B Copywriter in Oakland, California. As a copywriter, you’ll help bring Exponent’s high-impact work to life across a variety of print and digital materials, from thought leadership, case studies, and social media to presentation decks and brochures to HR and recruiting collateral. You’ll also play a key role in our growing, collaborative department, taking part in broader strategic projects and supporting the development of the marketing function by developing content templates, articulating our value proposition, drafting omni-channel campaigns, supporting internal and external events, writing for web components, and more.

Requirements

10-12+ years of professional writing experience
The ability to absorb technical information and juggle multiple assignments concurrently, adhering to deadlines
Ability to prioritize deadlines and make good judgement calls on concurrent deliverables
A portfolio of meaningful writing samples showcasing a variety of forms: articles, web content, social posts, sales collateral, etc.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field of study, including English, journalism, communications, marketing, or other relevant degree
A knack for distilling complex technical capabilities into B2B long- and short-form content that resonates with our target audiences
Stakeholder management experience – you understand complex approval processes and risk mitigation. (Prior experience in a regulated industry in a plus)
Top-notch interviewing skills and the ability to quickly spot which topics are ripe for thought leadership, case studies, white papers, are well-suited to graphics, etc.
A natural affinity for if not direct experience in technical and/or relevant industry content development, marketing, and related communications
A passion for science and engineering
A tactical understanding of B2B marketing writing and strategies, including how to use AI tools to gain efficiency without sacrificing accuracy
An agile, growth mindset – our team is evolving, which requires team members to test new ideas, adapt to changing needs, and roll up their sleeves and get the job done when shifting priorities and deadlines demand it
Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
Working knowledge of AP style highly preferred
Basic SEO experience and knowledge of optimization tools such as SEM Rush a plus
Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship and processing required.

Responsibilities

Write – a lot. This is a role for an experienced, sophisticated, efficient writer who is ready to be inspired and challenged by a near-endless buffet of topics and assignment types.
Conduct interviews. You know the right questions to ask and how to follow the story as it develops live, in real time. You know how to ask follow up questions. You are good at managing expectations and clearly summarize expectations to support the draft process.
Develop topic and story angles that are aligned to Exponent’s strategic and brand initiatives, including guiding free-form content brainstorming sessions and actively supporting subject-matter experts in finding “the story.”
Dig into the technical details of Exponent’s engineering and scientific capabilities without getting lost in the weeds – you’ll navigate diverse technical topics while keeping an eye on multiple priorities.
Ensure the consistency of all content in accordance with Exponent’s brand tone and style requirements.
Absorb subject-matter expert feedback flexibly, providing edits for revisions and appropriate solutions / editorial approaches, as needed.
Develop knowledge of Exponent’s business continuously, connecting the dots between strategic messaging and priorities and bringing those nuances to bear on our content.
Suggest creative ways of repurposing, repackaging, and upcycling Exponent’s new and existing content to maximize our resources and impact.
Support broader marketing operations as needed, including copyediting and proofreading of other copywriters’ work to keep our pipeline running smoothly.
Contribute to process documentation and optimization inside our fast-evolving department.
