About The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing Communications Strategist will strengthen how the OSEG Foundation plans, coordinates and communicates its work. This six-month contract combines strategy and hands-on execution: building practical systems that bring priorities, consistency and focus to communications across events, 50/50, programming, philanthropy, and organizational initiatives, while also creating high-quality content and collateral. This full-time, 6-month contract role has a pro-rated annual salary range of $62,200 to $76,200, with 100% employer-paid benefits. The final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience and qualifications. This is a new position and offers the flexibility to work on-site or in a hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field, ideally in a non-profit, community, sport or purpose-driven environment.
  • Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or a related field. A combination of relevant education and experience may be accepted.
  • Demonstrated experience developing communications strategies, messaging frameworks, editorial plans or other systems that improve organizational coordination and consistency.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and interviewing skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, engaging and audience appropriate content.
  • A strong storyteller who can identify the human impact within programs and represent people’s experiences with accuracy, respect and care.
  • Ability to move comfortably between strategic planning and hands on execution, bringing structure and momentum to an evolving communications function.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple contributors, priorities and deadlines.
  • Sound judgement and a collaborative approach, including the confidence to ask good questions, synthesize different perspectives and recommend a clear path forward.
  • Experience creating content for digital and print channels and working with visual designers or creative partners.
  • Familiarity with content calendars, shared asset libraries, website content management systems, email marketing platforms and social media tools.
  • Passion for the OSEG Foundation’s mandate and the role sport can play in positive youth development.
  • Able to provide a clear Criminal Records Check.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an integrated communications plan that aligns outreach across events, 50/50, programming, philanthropy, and organizational initiatives.
  • Define key audiences, objectives, channels, content requirements, and timelines to coordinate messaging, reduce duplication, and expand reach.
  • Collaborate with Foundation and OSEG colleagues to anticipate communications needs and translate departmental priorities into a cohesive organizational narrative.
  • Establish sustainable communications tools and processes—including shared calendars, planning templates, intake and approval workflows, and a practical framework for measuring reach, engagement, and content performance.
  • Recommending the appropriate mix of paid, earned, shared, and owned channels to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Establishing communications KPIs and a measurement framework to track awareness, engagement, audience growth, website traffic, media coverage, campaign performance, and progress toward Foundation objectives.
  • Develop a comprehensive messaging framework that articulates the Foundation’s overarching narrative and tailored messages for each major program and revenue stream.
  • Adapt messaging for key audiences—including participants and families, donors, partners, volunteers, and the broader community—while maintaining a consistent voice and core story.
  • Translate the new brand and messaging framework into clear, audience-focused content across web, social media, presentations, newsletters, one-pagers, and other priority materials.
  • Create practical guidance that enables staff to apply the brand and messaging confidently and consistently in day-to-day communications, including creating channel-specific content strategies.
  • Review and refresh priority materials to align with the new brand, messaging framework, and organizational direction.
  • Identify and develop compelling impact stories that demonstrate how the Foundation and its programs help children and youth play, learn, and grow through sport.
  • Interview participants, families, partners, staff, and other stakeholders with care and sensitivity, securing appropriate permissions and representing their experiences accurately.
  • Write and edit accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences and formats, including profiles, program descriptions, web and social content, newsletters, reports, presentations, and donor materials.
  • Create a well-organized, reusable story and content library with clear tagging, permissions, and supporting information to enable responsible adaptation and use.
  • Provide responsive content support for the new brand rollout and other time-sensitive Foundation priorities throughout the contract.
  • Manage multiple workstreams and deadlines, maintaining clear project plans and providing regular progress updates to the Executive Director and internal partners.
  • Build strong working relationships across departments, balancing diverse needs while keeping communications aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Coordinate with designers, photographers, videographers, agencies, or other external partners when required.
  • Document recommendations, processes, templates, and outstanding priorities, and provide a clear handoff at the end of the contract.
