About The Position

Sonar is seeking a Marketing AI Engineer to design, build, and maintain AI agents and automated workflows that enhance the marketing function's impact. This role involves collaborating closely with marketing stakeholders to understand their processes, identify automation opportunities, and develop reliable solutions. The engineer will be responsible for the full lifecycle of deployed agents, from design and development to monitoring, debugging, and iteration. Key responsibilities include producing clear reporting on efficiency and impact, staying current with AI tooling, and ensuring data quality and governance. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of marketing operations expertise and AI automation skills, understanding marketing processes from the inside and building automations to make them faster, smarter, and more scalable.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in marketing operations, automation engineering, or a closely related role, with a track record of building workflows or automations that measurably improved team efficiency.
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of marketing processes and tools, including CRM (Salesforce), marketing automation, campaign ops, analytics, and content workflows.
  • Experience with no-code/low-code automation platforms (e.g., Make, Zapier, n8n) and comfort extending them with scripting when needed (Python and/or JavaScript).
  • Working familiarity with AI agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI Assistants) or a demonstrated ability and appetite to ramp quickly.
  • Experience integrating with third-party APIs and working with marketing data structures (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, GA, Marketo).
  • Strong analytical skills and experience building performance dashboards and reporting for deployed automations.
  • Clear communication skills to explain automation functionality and impact to non-technical stakeholders and translate requirements into technical specifications.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a bias to build, staying current on the fast-moving AI landscape.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • A marketing ops practitioner who has grown into building automations is a strong fit.

Responsibilities

  • Map and prioritize automation opportunities by working closely with marketing teams to understand their day-to-day processes and identify where AI agents and automated workflows can eliminate manual work, reduce errors, or unlock new capabilities.
  • Design and build AI agents and automated workflows to streamline marketing processes, including content production, campaign operations, reporting, lead routing, and personalization.
  • Own the full lifecycle of deployed agents, from initial release through ongoing monitoring, debugging, and iteration, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Track and report on workflow automation metrics (time saved, error rates, throughput, business impact) and deliver regular dashboards and summaries to marketing leadership.
  • Continuously evaluate new AI models, agent frameworks, and automation platforms, providing a clear point of view on adoption and experimentation.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Tooling & AI Operations Manager to understand the existing tool stack, ensure automations integrate reliably, and drive adoption of new AI-powered capabilities.
  • Design automations that handle marketing data responsibly, with attention to data quality, privacy, and auditability.
  • Produce clear documentation for all deployed agents and workflows, and run internal enablement sessions to help the marketing team understand and use the built solutions.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance for the right person if not currently based in the role's location.
