About The Position

Basecamp Research is hiring a Market Product Lead to own the peptide and protein platform as a commercial product. The role covers market analysis, target product profiles, decisions about which capabilities to build and license, go-to-market strategy, and partner-facing positioning. The lead will work between model and science teams and Business Development, and will be accountable for establishing a defined buyer, defensible claims, and credible pricing for the peptide portfolio. The role includes building market and competitive intelligence; defining target product profiles and programme criteria; owning the product roadmap, packaging, and commercial models; and developing partner-facing positioning and evidence. The Market Product Lead will support partner engagement and revenue generation with Business Development, participate in meetings and diligence, set standards for external claims, and collaborate with scientific and legal colleagues on intellectual property, freedom to operate, and novelty positioning. Travel to client and industry meetings is required. Basecamp Research is a biotechnology company developing AI for therapeutic design. Its EDEN models are trained on BaseData, a proprietary genomic dataset described as containing over 10 billion genes collected through partnerships in more than 30 countries across all seven continents. The company has offices and labs in London and Boston and works with biopharma companies and academic institutions worldwide.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with substantial exposure to peptide, protein, or biologics therapeutics in discovery, development, product strategy, or business development.
  • Demonstrable understanding of peptide drug-development challenges, including proteolytic stability, oral and systemic exposure, receptor selectivity and off-target risk, immunogenicity, formulation, manufacturability, and their trade-offs.
  • Track record of shaping and closing commercial partnerships, licensing agreements, or platform deals with pharmaceutical companies, or of owning commercial strategy for a platform sold into pharmaceutical R&D.
  • Proven ability to author target product profiles, competitive assessments, and commercial cases that senior stakeholders act on.
  • Ability to hold substantive technical discussions with computational and experimental scientists and commercial discussions with senior pharmaceutical stakeholders without over-claiming.
  • Comfort operating with incomplete evidence and discipline in distinguishing validated results, promising findings, and aspirations.
  • Excellent written English.
  • Willingness to travel, including to represent Basecamp Research at client and industry meetings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in metabolic disease, immunology, anti-infectives, or another therapeutic area with an active peptide pipeline.
  • Familiarity with macrocyclic peptides, peptidomimetics, non-canonical amino acids, conjugation strategies, or oral delivery technologies.
  • Direct experience with AI-enabled drug discovery platforms, from the platform side or the pharmaceutical side of a partnership.
  • A postgraduate degree in a life science, chemistry, or related business area, or equivalent depth acquired in industry.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain market intelligence on peptide and protein therapeutics by segment, indication, modality, mechanism trends, and delivery technologies.
  • Track competitors across AI-enabled discovery platforms, peptide- and protein-focused biotechs, screening technology providers, and pharmaceutical companies’ internal capabilities; translate findings into product-roadmap and go-to-market implications.
  • Maintain a current map of deal structures, comparables, and valuation benchmarks for platform licensing and co-development, and advise on agreement positioning.
  • Conduct structured voice-of-customer research with pharmaceutical R&D leaders and convert findings into prioritized written requirements.
  • Author and defend target product profiles for internal programmes, specifying market differentiation and evidence needs.
  • Translate partner-supplied target product profiles into feasible research plans with scientific leadership, including candid assessments of current platform capabilities and limitations.
  • Define peptide-programme stage gates and go/no-go criteria, and recommend when programmes should stop.
  • Determine which platform capabilities become licensable products and in what sequence, balancing near-term revenue with durable differentiation.
  • Own the peptide product roadmap end to end, agree priorities with model, data, and science teams, and manage scope.
  • Define packaging and commercial models, including access arrangements, bespoke model fine-tuning on partner data, co-development structures, and asset-level licensing.
  • Specify data needed from partners to improve the platform and turn broad collaboration offers into precise written requests.
  • Support partner engagement and revenue generation in collaboration with the Business Development team.
  • Develop the peptide narrative and supporting capability maps, benchmark summaries, validation packages, and competitive comparisons.
  • Set and enforce standards for accurate, consistent, appropriately caveated external claims about validation, benchmarks, and limitations.
  • Support Business Development through partner meetings, scientific exchanges, conferences, and diligence processes, bridging technical and commercial discussions.
  • Work with scientific and legal colleagues on intellectual property strategy, freedom-to-operate considerations, and novelty positioning for designed molecules.
  • Travel to represent Basecamp Research at client and industry meetings.
