About The Position

The Market Director of Business Development (MDBD) is a senior leadership role responsible for driving revenue growth, admissions performance, and market expansion across single and/or multiple facilities within an assigned region. This role provides strategic direction, coaching, and oversight to Business Development Liaisons (BDLs), ensuring alignment with organizational growth goals and performance expectations. The role is structured to evolve into multi-tier oversight as the organization expands, with future responsibility for supervising Directors of Business Development and their respective facility teams. The MDBD serves as both a strategist and active contributor, balancing high-level planning with direct market execution. This role partners closely with facility CEOs and local leadership to ensure alignment of business development activity with key organizational priorities, including revenue, admissions, census, payer mix, and expense management.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in business development and sales, with a minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience, including multi-site or regional oversight.
  • Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth, admissions, census, payer mix improvements, and financial performance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.
  • Experience in the healthcare or behavioral health industry is strongly advantageous.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on achieving measurable revenue and performance targets.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to both execute personally and inspire a team to success.
  • Advanced problem-solving aptitude, capable of addressing complex, multi-market challenges.

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills to effectively convey the organization's value proposition and negotiate business agreements.
  • Highly collaborative mindset, able to work effectively across facility CEOs, clinical leaders, finance, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality, including knowledge of HIPAA (45 CFR) and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements regarding patient information.
  • This position has unrestricted access to identifying information and health information concerning patients, potential patients, and participants.
  • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness to perform job duties safely.
  • Regular attendance, including participation in conference calls and onsite meetings, as necessary.
  • Pass required background checks, urine drug screen, and motor vehicle report.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and meet fleet policy requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a market business development plan that aligns with company-wide growth objectives and individual facility goals.
  • Collaborate with facility CEOs and market leaders to establish specific targets related to census, admissions, payer mix, and revenue.
  • Ensure each market has a clear roadmap for referral development, brand positioning, and community engagement.
  • Personally maintain and grow a portfolio of key referral relationships, serving as a high-level representative of the organization.
  • Contribute to admissions growth through active participation in referral development, presentations, and market engagement.
  • Step into facility-level business development activities when needed to reinforce execution and model best practices.
  • Support high-priority accounts and markets directly, ensuring pull-through and follow-up are timely and effective.
  • Provide direct oversight, coaching, and accountability to Business Development Liaisons, ensuring consistent performance across facilities.
  • Establish expectations, performance reviews, and professional development plans for BDLs.
  • Lead training and skill development, emphasizing consultative selling, referral pull-through, and market execution.
  • Serve as a mentor, modeling professionalism and executional discipline while driving results through others.
  • Monitor referral patterns, census data, and competitive activity across all markets within the region.
  • Provide actionable insights to facility CEOs and executive leadership to anticipate market shifts and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure the region is positioned as the provider of choice through consistent visibility, outreach, and reputation-building efforts.
  • Track progress toward facility and market KPIs, including admissions, revenue, census, and payer mix.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to the Business Development and Admissions Leadership, facility CEOs, and corporate leadership, highlighting successes and areas needing corrective action.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations to link business development activities with financial performance, ensuring growth is both measurable and sustainable.
  • Partner with clinical, admissions, and operational teams to ensure business development strategies are aligned with facility capacity, payer relationships, and treatment outcomes.
  • Contribute to regional and organizational initiatives such as conferences, alumni engagement, and community programming.
  • Serve as a connector across functions and markets, ensuring best practices are identified, shared, and implemented consistently.
