About The Position

Nexus Health Systems is seeking an accomplished healthcare executive to serve as Market Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for our Houston Market, providing strategic, operational, clinical, and financial leadership across three specialized hospitals serving the Greater Houston area. The Market CEO is the senior executive responsible for the overall performance of Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston, Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah, and Nexus Children’s Hospital – The Woodlands. This leader will oversee market strategy, hospital operations, financial performance, quality, growth, leadership development, and organizational culture while ensuring each campus delivers exceptional patient care. This is a highly visible executive role for a proven hospital leader who can successfully manage a complex, multi-site healthcare market while building strong leadership teams and driving sustainable growth. Nexus Health Systems’ Houston Market consists of three specialized hospitals providing care to children, adolescents, and adults with complex medical, behavioral, neurodevelopmental, and rehabilitation needs. Our interdisciplinary model bridges medical and behavioral healthcare, providing specialized programs designed to promote recovery, independence, and long-term quality of life. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.
  • At least 5 years of executive leadership or multi-site management experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex hospital or health-system operations.
  • Significant experience with hospital financial management and P&L accountability.
  • Proven ability to lead senior-level teams and drive performance across multiple departments, facilities, or service lines.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, quality, regulatory compliance, financial management, and strategic planning.
  • Exceptional executive communication, decision-making, relationship-building, and problem-solving capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within pediatric specialty care, behavioral health, rehabilitation, neurobehavioral services, or other complex specialty hospital environments is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the Houston Market strategic plan in alignment with Nexus Health Systems' organizational goals.
  • Identify and lead opportunities for market growth, service-line expansion, new program development, and strategic partnerships.
  • Translate system-level objectives into measurable market and hospital initiatives.
  • Drive greater operational integration and consistency across the three Houston-area hospitals.
  • Partner with executive leadership to advance patient experience, innovation, clinical excellence, and organizational culture.
  • Evaluate market trends and emerging opportunities that may influence future growth and service delivery.
  • Provide executive oversight of hospital operations across Houston, Shenandoah, and The Woodlands.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability for market and hospital leadership.
  • Ensure each campus achieves established operational, clinical, quality, and patient-care objectives.
  • Develop and monitor market-level KPIs and operating metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
  • Drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and standardization across facilities.
  • Ensure appropriate infrastructure and resources are in place to support safe, effective, and sustainable operations.
  • Maintain executive accountability for the financial performance of the Houston Market.
  • Lead the development and management of operating and capital budgets across all three hospitals.
  • Monitor revenue, expenses, labor, productivity, census, profitability, and other key financial indicators.
  • Implement corrective strategies when performance falls below established targets.
  • Partner with finance and revenue cycle leadership to optimize financial performance, reimbursement, resource allocation, and cost management.
  • Evaluate the financial and operational impact of new programs, contracts, capital investments, and strategic partnerships.
  • Balance financial stewardship with the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Ensure all hospitals maintain compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, licensing, and patient-safety requirements.
  • Partner with clinical and quality leadership to strengthen patient outcomes and organizational performance.
  • Promote a culture in which patient safety, clinical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement are shared priorities.
  • Ensure market leadership remains prepared for regulatory surveys, accreditation reviews, and other external assessments.
  • Lead, mentor, develop, and hold accountable hospital and market-level leaders.
  • Build a high-performing leadership team capable of executing the market's strategic and operational priorities.
  • Foster collaboration between hospital operations, nursing, medical staff, behavioral health, therapy, admissions, finance, quality, and corporate leadership.
  • Champion employee engagement, retention, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Maintain strong communication and visibility throughout all three campuses.
  • Promote a mission-driven culture consistent with Nexus Health Systems' values and standards.
  • Serve as a senior representative of Nexus Health Systems throughout the Greater Houston healthcare community.
  • Develop strong relationships with physicians, health systems, payors, referral partners, educational institutions, community organizations, and other key stakeholders.
  • Identify strategic partnerships that expand access, strengthen referral relationships, and support market growth.
  • Support patient and family engagement through executive visibility, communication, and advocacy.
  • Strengthen Nexus Health Systems' position as a leader in specialized medical and behavioral healthcare.
