The Role We have an opportunity for an Ocean Engineer with interests or experience in marine forensic investigation, litigation support, risk loss consulting, repair, and retrofit design. Curiosity, engineering excellence, and solid writing skills are required for this position. You will have the opportunity to lead investigations in the seaport and waterfront-built environment, industrial facilities, marine infrastructure, transportation sector and high-tech applications. You will be supported in this role by a diverse multidisciplinary team ranging from entry-level engineers to senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in ocean engineering is required.
  • 12+ years of experience in the Ocean/Maritime field.
  • Ocean/Civil Professional Engineering (PE) License in at least one jurisdiction and the ability to obtain licensure in others.
  • Ability to bring or develop a book of business.
  • Ability to write reports that clearly express engineering opinions and conclusions and support these conclusions/opinions with facts and sound engineering principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, meet deadlines and travel to work sites.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to short durations for certain assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects independently and support engineers in the Forensics practice on projects as needed.
  • Support you in business development activities such as conferences and business development events.
  • Working directly with a wide variety of clients, including attorneys, vessel and seaport and terminal property owners, contractors, and insurance professionals, on a wide range of investigations which may involve:
  • Mooring, Towing, and Anchoring Analyses
  • Hull Damage Assessments and Repair Plans
  • Dry Dock, Graving Dock, and Ship Lift
  • Structural and Material Failure Analysis
  • Mechanical Failure Analysis
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Damage Assessment
  • Equipment Loss Consulting and Mitigation
  • Serve as an expert witness in various scenarios, including depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
