About The Position

Irish Boat Shop, a family-owned and operated business serving Northern Michigan for over 65 years, is seeking a Marine Technician for their small, friendly, and hardworking team in Traverse City. As a service-first operation with a loyal customer base, they represent premium brands like Boston Whaler, Nautique, and Chaparral, and primarily service Mercury, PCM, Yamaha, and Volvo Penta engines, though they work on most Outboard, I/O, and Inboard engines.

Skill operating a computer and using diagnostic software.
Skill in troubleshooting complex integrated systems and electronics.
Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, when needed.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs, to lift up to 50 pounds consistently, and to get on/off boats of varying sizes.
Willingness to help out where needed.

Nice To Haves

Preferred 5+ years as a marine technician.
Current certifications, particularly in Mercury/MerCruiser and ABYC are preferred.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
Perform routine maintenance on boats and engines.
Winterize engines properly to ensure freeze protection.
Shrink wrap boats.
Repower vessels.
Operate boats of various sizes and engine configurations, trucks with trailers, a tractor, and forklift.
Maintain a safety-first mindset and use proper PPE.
Utilize manufacturers’ technical support services.
Obtain and maintain a valid chauffeur license within 90 days of hire.
Keep an accurate record of work performed and parts used, and enter notes into software.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Interact with customers and co-workers in a professional, friendly manner.
