About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of company vessels and facilities by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of mechanical, electrical, and propulsion systems. Reporting directly to the Port Engineer, this position plays a key role in maintaining vessel propulsion equipment, electrical generation systems, and other critical machinery while assisting with the overall maintenance of Flagship property. The Maintenance Mechanic supports the preventive maintenance program by completing scheduled maintenance, monitoring equipment condition, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and preparing vessels and equipment for maintenance performed by outside vendors, helping to ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and ongoing random drug and alcohol screenings.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a mechanic capacity performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and assisting with equipment repairs.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and perform preventive maintenance on a variety of marine equipment and vessel systems.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces and varying weather conditions.
  • May be required to apply for a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).

Nice To Haves

  • technical or vocational training in marine mechanics, diesel technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with diesel engines is preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems is preferred.
  • Basic plumbing experience, including the installation and repair of plumbing components, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on vessel propulsion systems, diesel engines, electrical generation systems, mechanical equipment, and auxiliary systems to ensure safe and reliable vessel operation.
  • Conduct routine inspections of vessels, engine rooms, docks, marine railway, and related equipment to identify maintenance needs, unsafe conditions, and operational deficiencies.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and repair vessel electrical systems and components, including automatic controls, batteries, alarm systems, and related equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, break-in services, annual services, lower-end services, cable replacements, and other manufacturer-recommended maintenance.
  • Complete fueling operations and assist with routine vessel servicing while ensuring compliance with company safety procedures and environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, equipment logs, schedules, and other required documentation, ensuring incidents and irregularities are properly recorded.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of parts, materials, tools, and supplies to support uninterrupted maintenance operations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop and work environment, ensuring equipment and work areas remain in good condition throughout each shift.
  • Ensure all vessel safety equipment is present, properly maintained, and in good working order.
  • Promptly report maintenance concerns, equipment deficiencies, safety hazards, and non-conformities to the Port Captain.
  • Support Operations, Guest Experience, and other departments by assisting with maintenance projects and operational needs as required.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices, professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to providing excellent service while contributing to the efficient operation of the fleet.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
