About The Position

The Marine Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of marine engines and related mechanical systems to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the company's boats and marine equipment. The position requires hands-on technical knowledge of marine diesel and outboard engines, with a strong focus on preventive maintenance, timely repairs, and operational safety.

Requirements

  • Technical qualification, diploma, or certificate in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a Marine Mechanic, Marine Engine Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or similar technical position.
  • Practical experience working with marine diesel engines and/or outboard engines.
  • Knowledge of marine propulsion systems, gearboxes, cooling systems, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Ability to read and understand basic technical manuals, engine specifications, and maintenance instructions.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working onboard boats and in marine environments.
  • Good awareness of occupational and marine safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repairs of marine engines and associated mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose engine faults, mechanical failures, abnormal noises, vibrations, overheating, and performance issues.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel and outboard engines.
  • Conduct regular checks of engine oil, coolant, fuel systems, belts, filters, hoses, batteries, and other engine components.
  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, replace, and reassemble defective engine components as required.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fuel, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, and starting systems.
  • Carry out engine oil and filter changes and other scheduled servicing activities.
  • Ensure proper engine alignment, lubrication, adjustment, and calibration where required.
  • Inspect propeller shafts, couplings, gearboxes, transmission systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Respond promptly to engine breakdowns and mechanical issues affecting vessel operations.
  • Conduct testing after repairs and ensure engines are operating safely and efficiently before vessels return to service.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, servicing, spare parts, and maintenance activities.
  • Report major mechanical defects, recurring problems, and required replacement parts to the supervisor.
  • Ensure all tools and workshop areas are kept clean, organized, and in good working condition.
  • Follow manufacturer's maintenance schedules and technical specifications.
  • Comply with all marine safety procedures, company policies, and applicable maritime regulations.
