About The Position
The Marine Mechanic performs technical operations at the marina, with a primary focus on customer satisfaction, customer retention, and profitability. The role requires maintaining a professional company image and working effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The mechanic prepares repair orders, communicates with customers about estimates and expected completion or return times, and investigates reported problems through customer discussions, inspections, test drives, maintenance records, and service schedules. The role involves varied tasks, teamwork, sound judgment, and managing multiple projects while responding to customer requests and interruptions.
Requirements
- Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service technical equipment.
- Flexible schedule that includes working weekends and holidays during the busy season.
- Able to independently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to swim or be willing to wear a personal flotation device in emergencies.
- Able to use sound judgment, follow policies and procedures, work as a self-starter, and contribute in a team environment.
Nice To Haves
- Previous Marine Mechanic experience is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Prepare repair orders by documenting symptoms, problems, causes, required repairs and services; obtain approval signatures; and enter repair orders into the service database system.
- Maintain customer rapport by explaining estimates and expected boat or vessel return times, obtaining customer approval, exchanging contact numbers, addressing questions and concerns, and arranging towing and temporary transportation.
- Determine problems and required services by listening to customers, clarifying reported issues, conducting inspections and test drives, checking maintenance records, and examining service schedules.
- Assist with multiple projects and respond to customer needs and requests while working toward team, department, and company goals.
- Maintain a professional company image in customer interactions.
