About The Position

This is a paid internship where interns are responsible for the general care and maintenance of all marine mammals in assigned areas. Areas will be assigned after hire and may involve working with dolphins and pinnipeds. The role includes food retrieval and preparation, maintaining animal areas, interacting with guests, assisting with animal care and training, and learning/performing show scripts.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must possess strong swimming skills and be able to pass an on-site swim test.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must be comfortable speaking in front of large crowds.
• Must be articulate and able to clearly speak, read, and write in English.
• Must be willing to listen and follow both written and verbal instructions.
• Must be willing and able to work 40 hours a week, both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
• Must be willing and able to work in and around cold saltwater.
• Must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Must possess the mental and physical capacities necessary to perform primary responsibilities.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• 3 months of previous experience in animal care and training and/or completed college level courses in a related science preferred.
• SCUBA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Retrieval of food from freezer and delivery to animal areas.
• Diet preparation and record keeping.
• Maintaining cleanliness of all assigned animal areas.
• Interacting with and educating park guests.
• Maintaining cleanliness of offices and locker rooms.
• Learning show scripts and performing show parts as assigned.
• Assisting with animal care, feeding, and training sessions as assigned.
• Other duties as requested.
