About The Position

This is a highly hands-on role operating and maintaining cutting-edge robotic technology in a real-world commercial fishing environment. Candidates should be comfortable working in physically demanding conditions, living aboard a vessel, and responding to technical issues independently. Successful candidates will play a critical role in supporting customers, improving system performance, and helping shape future product development through field learnings.

Requirements

  • Strong enthusiasm for hands-on technical work in marine environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working aboard vessels or in maritime operations.
  • Ability to remain drug- and alcohol-free for the duration of vessel deployment.
  • At least 2 year of experience working with electro-mechanical systems or assemblies.
  • High proficiency with hand tools and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and solve problems in remote field environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with remote cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility and willingness to live and work aboard a commercial fishing vessel for an extended period.
  • Ability to work long hours in physically demanding and changing environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Shinkei's robotic fish processing systems while deployed at sea.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and operational issues in the field with limited support.
  • Work directly with electro-mechanical assemblies to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Build, repair, and maintain electrical harnessing and related components.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and standard industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to identify, document, and mitigate field issues.
  • Work alongside commercial fishermen and vessel crews, gathering operational feedback and communicating insights back to engineering teams.
  • Participate in a minimum of two weeks of hands-on training at Shinkei HQ in El Segundo, CA prior to deployment.
  • Represent Shinkei professionally while serving as the primary technical operator aboard a commercial fishing vessel.
