About The Position

Entarian is seeking a Marine Field Operations Specialist to support the NOAA Office of Habitat Conservation’s NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office (NCBO) in Annapolis, MD. The position will support the Ecosystem Science & Synthesis program in three primary areas: 1) Maintaining vessels and field assets that support observational data including the Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS), hypoxia buoy system, and related assets and information including observational instruments; 2) Collection, storage, use, and/or interpretation of observational data; 3) Maintaining field operational records. Telework is permitted, however, duties required such as vessel maintenance, equipment maintenance, and field work will require weekly presence at the Annapolis, MD office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Marine Science, Environmental Science or another applicable field, or related disciplines appropriate to the position and a minimum of two (2) years specialized experience.
  • Experience with projects involving operational support, management, organizational, data analysis, and/or technical services.
  • Knowledge of the processes for maintaining instrumentation and/or data in support of estuarine observations systems.
  • Ability to meet NOAA Small Boat Program Class I, II, and III vessel operator requirements.
  • Able to lift, haul, and otherwise manipulate up to 50lbs of equipment including, but not limited to sonar, mooring hardware, instrumentation, and vessel-associated equipment on land and onboard vessels in operation.
  • Experience trailering small boats at least 20 feet in length, including facility maneuvering in launch and recovery operations.
  • Experience in Oceanographic/Hydrographic/Ecological field research.
  • Basic understanding of digital sensor integration and data logging.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, agency officials and others.
  • Moderate to high level of field operations skills to help solve complex and unusual managerial, technical, operational, and/or administrative problems.
  • Demonstrated operational knowledge of Vessel Inventory & Information Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated operational knowledge of Vessel mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government systems and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain NCBO vessels and observational field assets and instrumentation for the Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS), hypoxia buoy system, and other observational platforms.
  • Provide ingest, standardization, and processing for CBIBS, hypoxia, and other observational data to ensure quality and readiness for product integration.
  • Maintain all field operational records in a common management system pertaining to NOAA vessel operational requirements, maintenance, safety and lifesaving equipment.
