Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! HII Platform Modernization (PM) trades teams provide expert solutions on shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization. The selected Marine Electrician candidate will support PM, working closely with our skilled trades teams, on Naval Vessels, utilizing various tools of the trades, removing, installing and upgrading industrial systems and equipment. Weekend and/or overtime hours required depending on contract awards and support required as per trade/skill set. Selected candidates will be required to commute to and maintain access to shipyards and military bases located around the Hampton Roads area depending on contract obligations. Selected candidates will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and abroad when not assigned to a local task. Per Diem provided based on location when on travel. Travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma or Trade School equivalent, with experience aligned to 4 years of electrical and field technician work, including cable installation, termination, connector fabrication, troubleshooting, and shipboard support.
  • Must be able to obtain shipyard and base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain them throughout employment.
  • Must adhere to all safety and quality procedures, including performing in‑process QA inspections and meeting NAVSEA standards.
  • Must be able to travel between 50%–75% when not assigned to local tasking.
  • Must provide appropriate hand tools and trade‑specific PPE.
  • Must have experience installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical and electronic systems, including Cable runs (installation, rip‑out, routing, and dressing); Equipment mounting (racks, cabinets, brackets); System component verification and operational testing
  • Must be proficient in reading and interpreting run sheets, drawings, schematics, prints, and technical documentation for correct installation and verification.
  • Must have experience planning and laying out cable routes, pulling, banding, and grooming cable runs, and ensuring work meets required specifications.
  • Must have experience building, modifying, and air‑testing watertight MCTs, including cutting, sorting, assembling, and 90‑psi pressure testing.
  • Must be proficient in fabrication and troubleshooting of coax, and multipin connectors, including checking for continuity and ground.
  • Must understand proper and safe methods for disconnecting and reconnecting equipment and completing required OQE (Objective Quality Evidence).
  • Must be experienced in the safe usage of multimeters, meggers, and performing continuity and grounding tests.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with Team Leads and coworkers regarding technical work, task progress, and material needs.
  • Must be able to perform in a crew leadership role.
  • Must be able to follow and enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
  • Must be able to work outside of trade specific requirements as team projects require towards task completion.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.
  • Candidates with NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications are preferred.
  • Candidate with a current or active DoD clearance preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.
  • Basic computer usage and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software a plus.
  • Candidates with multiple marine installation trade skills are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.
  • Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment and structures by performing alterations and installations for fleet modernization on US Navy surface ships.
  • Apply knowledge of production processes toward completion of complicated and non‑routine tasks related to installations on shipboard systems and related equipment at company or field locations in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.
  • Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, work orders, technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports, and task or trip reports.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose systems and equipment to efficiently eliminate problems.
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain effective supervisor and manager communications and relations.
  • Remove, plan, execute, install, and modify electrical cables, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, and equipment aboard naval vessels.
  • Complete electrical and data conductor disconnections and reconnections on existing and new equipment for full installation completion.
  • Complete quality documents necessary for reporting and verification of the work performed.
