This specific role is for a Marine Biologist 2 to support environmental field programs across Canada. This unique opportunity involves field planning, conducting field surveys, and completing reporting for projects in the Resources, Water, and Transportation market sectors. The successful candidate will work on multidisciplinary projects to address current and future challenges, coordinating closely with project team members and subject matter experts to foster learning and skill development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience managing biological/environmental projects
  • Leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) designation or eligibility for registration
  • Comprehensive understanding of provincial/territorial and federal regulatory frameworks, approval processes, and compliance requirements
  • Proven experience in designing, planning, and implementing marine field surveys and sampling programs, including water quality, sediment quality, and benthic community assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field teams in alignment with Safety, Health, and Environment policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Experience training, mentoring, and leading Indigenous monitoring crews, with a commitment to respectful and inclusive collaboration
  • Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality reports supported by robust data analysis and interpretation
  • Experience working in remote or challenging environments, with adaptability to varying field conditions
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience as a Marine Mammal Observer (MMO), with strong knowledge of observation protocols
  • Training in Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM), including familiarity with equipment operation and data interpretation
  • Proven experience working directly with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies, with strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage field crews of three or more staff, with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and team cohesion
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to support, drive, and expand marine-related business across Canada, including western and northern regions
  • Willingness and ability to participate in extended field programs, sometimes under challenging or remote conditions

Responsibilities

  • Designing and planning marine surveys utilizing a variety of survey methods
  • Leading field programs including directing field personnel
  • Training and coordinating Indigenous observers
  • Preparing technical reports for clients and regulators
  • Performing other project-related duties as needed
