About The Position

The City of Delta is seeking a full-time Mapping Technician for its Information Services Department. This role involves preparing and maintaining municipal base, legal, and utility servicing maps, along with recording and computing related non-spatial data using computer-assisted techniques like AutoCAD and GIS software (Munsys & ArcGIS Pro). The technician will work with diverse source data to create and revise drawings and maps for various departments and projects. A key responsibility includes acting as a primary QA/QC reviewer for drawings and engineering infrastructure assets, ensuring spatial accuracy and data quality align with the GIS team’s CAD/GIS standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of industry mapping standards, requirements and principles.
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted mapping techniques including AutoCAD Map 3D, ESRI suite of products and Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of coordinate geometry and survey computations.
  • Proficiency in using enterprise geodatabases and FME (Extract, Transform and Load) conversion software.
  • Understanding of Municipal engineering design principles, data entry techniques and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and adapt new techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, developers, consultants and general public.
  • At least 1 year of mapping technician work experience.
  • Certification in geographic information systems at an Institute of Technology.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.
