About The Position

The Offsite Maintenance and Modernization (M&M) Office in Puget is hiring Manufacturing Technicians to perform submarine shipboard and manufacturing work supporting new construction and maintenance in shipyard and shop environments. The role is multi-disciplined and requires one or more trade skills, such as welding, electrical work, pipefitting, shipfitting, inside or outside machining, or sheet metal work.

The successful candidate will help foster a positive team environment, maintain strong working relationships with the AIT team, and collaborate with on-site supervision to achieve department goals. The work calls for ownership, accountability, adaptability, and a focus on safety, quality, schedule, cost, and continuous improvement. Travel to offsite locations—including other shipyards in the continental United States and the Far East—is required, and candidates must accept extended work assignments. Work outside normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as shift work and emergency overtime, may be required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or manufacturing, or successful completion of a recognized welding school training program.
• Willingness to travel to other shipyards in the continental United States and the Far East and accept extended work assignments.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as shift work and emergency overtime, as required.
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
• Ability to use NAVSEA/SP ships drawings, technical manuals, ship system manuals, and other documents in performing the work.
• Ability to perform the functions of the craft according to proper procedures and policies and in a safe manner.
• Ability to qualify for and maintain Respiratory Protection certification.
• Ability to qualify for and maintain Fall Arrest Protection certification.
• Ability to qualify for and maintain Lifting & Handling / Industrial Trucks certification.
• Ability to qualify for and maintain EB Heavy Metals Program requirements.
• Ability to pass a practical exam for the position applied for.
• Strong organization and multitasking skills in a constantly changing environment.
• Strong coordination skills across multiple disciplines and functional areas.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical correspondence.
• Strong communication skills and ability to balance priorities.
• Experience with Welding Techniques sheets, MDDs, SDDs, and DIs.

Nice To Haves

• At least 2 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or manufacturing.
• At least 1 year of experience working in an industrial marine environment.
• Past experience working in a Naval Shipyard environment.
• Knowledge of MDPs, MDDs, SDDs, and DIs.
• Proficiency in ATA, Lotus Notes, Cornerstone, and PQS.
• Trade background or technical apprenticeship training.
• Military service.
• Experience with hull, mechanical, electrical, sheet metal, and welding processes, and installation of multiple ship systems on Trident, 688, Seawolf, and Virginia-class submarines.
