Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 5+ years manufacturing experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting, decision-making, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read/understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Mechanically and electrically inclined, with experience using diagnostic tools and PC applications such as Excel, Word, SharePoint, and data analysis systems.
  • Effective communicator with strong people skills, capable of training others and collaborating across cross-functional teams including IT, mechanical, and process engineering.
  • Self-starter and results-oriented team player who remains composed in emergency situations, follows plant procedures, and acts as a positive role model and motivator.

  • Two year electrical/mechanical/or controls technical degree preferred (Associates)

Responsibilities

  • Provide quick response manufacturing support triggered by Operations feedback as well as product quality data.
  • Optimize the Safety, Product Selects and Equipment Utilization associated with the manufacturing of Optical Fiber.
  • Identify and support process improvements.
  • Use judgment, experience and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations.
  • Support the department in achieving Safety and Lean manufacturing goals while ensuring reliable equipment performance.
  • Provide advanced electrical, controls, mechanical, and equipment troubleshooting support for production issues and drive problems through resolution.
  • Monitor equipment and process performance, identify improvement opportunities, and prioritize issues based on plant and departmental needs.
  • Collaborate with operators, engineers, technicians, and maintenance trades to coordinate equipment startups, repairs, troubleshooting, and process changes.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities, equipment design improvements, installation, testing, and debugging of new or modified production systems.
  • Develop and deliver training documentation and support for production teams on new equipment, processes, and procedural updates.
