About The Position

As a Manufacturing Technician focused on Sample Management at Nomic, you will support one of the most important operational workflows in our laboratory: the accurate receipt, verification, documentation, refactoring, organization, and storage of incoming customer samples. Sample management will be the primary day-to-day focus of this position. You will support the sample lifecycle from receipt through downstream handoff, storage, and eventual disposition, maintaining clear traceability and helping resolve issues along the way. You will help ensure that samples are received, logged, cross-checked, and handled correctly—and that related information is communicated accurately—so downstream profiling and laboratory workflows can proceed smoothly and reliably. This role sits within Manufacturing and works closely with biosafety, profiling, customer-facing teams, and other Operations partners. In addition to sample management, you will maintain designated Operations floor stock and material readiness. You will also be cross-trained on select Manufacturing activities, primarily aliquoting and routine buffer or reagent preparation, to provide backup coverage when needed. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys steady, process-driven work and takes pride in completing important operational tasks accurately and consistently.

Requirements

Diploma or degree in life sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent relevant laboratory experience.
At least six months of prior wet-lab or laboratory operations experience is preferred.
Experience working in a process-driven, documentation-heavy laboratory or operations environment is strongly preferred.
Experience with sample receiving, traceability, tube or plate handling, or laboratory logistics is an asset.
Exposure to biosafety or BSL2 working environments is preferred, though training can be provided.
Familiarity with pipetting, aliquoting, buffer preparation, or other routine laboratory techniques is an asset.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage recurring operational tasks accurately and consistently.
Clear verbal and written communication skills, including accurate and complete documentation.
Meticulous work habits, strong attention to detail, and reliable follow-through in resolving discrepancies and closing operational loops.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Comfort following written protocols and working with digital sample-tracking, documentation, and computer-based systems.
Fluency in English is required, as this role supports cross-functional workflows and communication with internal teams and customers operating in English. Bilingualism is an asset but is not required.

Responsibilities

Receive, inspect, document, and log incoming customer sample shipments using established procedures and sample-tracking systems.
Verify physical samples against manifests and supporting documentation.
Communicate with partner teams to investigate and resolve sample, shipment, or documentation discrepancies.
Refactor, reformat, or transfer sample tubes and plates for downstream workflows while maintaining accurate identification and traceability.
Prioritize, organize, and store samples appropriately, including time-sensitive or specially handled materials.
Support sample retrieval, movement, downstream handoff, disposition, and destruction according to established procedures.
Follow applicable biosafety, contamination-control, and sample-handling requirements.
Maintain organized receiving, refactoring, storage, and sample-flow practices that support operational quality and efficiency.
Track open sample-management tasks, discrepancies, and operational handoffs through resolution.
Contribute to improvements in sample receiving, documentation, storage, and workflow organization as volumes and handling requirements evolve.
Maintain designated production floor stock across Operations laboratory spaces, including materials stored within containment rooms.
Perform routine stock checks and replenish production materials and consumables according to established processes.
Ensure materials and storage areas are appropriately organized, labeled, and ready to support planned Operations activities.
Communicate shortages, low-stock conditions, and other material concerns to the appropriate Operations team member.
When additional coverage is needed and sample-management priorities allow, provide trained support for select Manufacturing activities, including: Reagent or oligo aliquoting using established procedures. Preparation of routine buffers or reagents for Manufacturing workflows. Basic material staging, labeling, and organization associated with these activities.
