About The Position

The Manufacturing Technician III is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and adjusting multi-axis CNC milling/grinding/lathe and other various types of semi-automated equipment depending on the assigned area. This position is also responsible for troubleshooting the machine when necessary, which involves diagnosing breakdowns, disassembling equipment, and replacing defective machine components. The role involves running production jobs on CNC or semi-automated equipment per work instructions to produce quality parts while maintaining productivity standards. It also includes inspecting product quality throughout the production run using various measuring tools, recording findings, and documenting shift communications. Reading work orders and blueprints to identify specifications, ensuring bill of materials accuracy, and performing program offsets and machine adjustments are key aspects of this role. Troubleshooting major machine issues, performing machine setups, and conducting general machine maintenance are also required. The technician will report production counts, scrap, and labor hours, comply with 6S standards, participate in lean manufacturing activities, and cross-train on different machines and work areas. All other duties as assigned are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of related experience is required.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand basic English.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to perform visual quality inspections.
  • Ability to learn, problem-solve, and make decisions per work instructions and documents.
  • Ability to communicate and work as a team member.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed by the company is required.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • CNC certification or metalworking/tooling certification preferred.
  • Knowledge in operating CNC, milling, or grinding machines preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Klein provided crane certification may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, monitor, and adjust multi-axis CNC milling/grinding/lathe or other various types of semi-automated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot machine breakdowns, diagnose issues, disassemble equipment, and replace defective components.
  • Run production jobs per written or verbal work instructions to produce quality parts while maintaining productivity standards.
  • Inspect product for quality throughout production run using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, comparators, and gauges.
  • Record inspection findings and write detailed downtime and other shift communications in a log book.
  • Read work orders and blueprints to identify appropriate specifications for machine setup and product quality.
  • Review work orders to ensure bill of materials are accurate and all inventory transactions are performed correctly.
  • Perform offsets to the program and adjustments to machine feed, speed, and axis points to ensure part specification and quality standards are maintained.
  • Troubleshoot major machine issues through specialized knowledge/experience by diagnosing breakdowns, disassembling equipment, and replacing, resetting, and sharpening machine tooling.
  • Perform machine set ups including changing fixtures, inserts, tooling bars, dies, and selecting and loading the program.
  • Perform general machine maintenance such as cleaning the machine, checking oil and coolant levels, and adding additional oil and coolant.
  • Report accurate count of production parts, scrap, and labor hours by completing required paperwork and/or electronic entry.
  • Comply with established 6S standards and participate in various lean manufacturing activities.
  • Cross-train by rotating to different machines and work areas as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
